Privacy policy
What we collect, why we use it, who else can see it and how long we keep it.
Who we are
The Co-parenting app and this website are provided by Happy Parents AB, company registration number 559197-1717, Kornhamnstorg 49, 111 27 Stockholm, Sweden. We are the controller of the personal data described here.
You can reach us about anything in this policy at hello@co-parenting.app.
What we collect
When you create an account we collect your name, email address or phone number, and anything else you choose to add, such as a profile picture.
When you use the app we store what you put into it: the schedule you agree, calendar entries and activities, messages, lists and to-dos, photos, information about your children, and the shared expenses you record.
We also collect technical information automatically, such as your device type, app version and log data about how the app is used.
We do not collect payment card details. Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, and they hold that information, not us.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
To provide the service — running your account, showing the schedule to the people you share it with, delivering messages and providing support. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
To keep the service safe — screening messages for abusive language, preventing fraud and unauthorised access, and investigating misuse. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in protecting users, and compliance with legal obligations.
To improve the service — fixing problems, understanding which features are used, and producing aggregated statistics. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in developing the service. Where this involves analytics cookies on the website, we ask for your consent first.
To send you marketing — newsletters and offers about our own service. Legal basis: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link or by emailing us.
Where we rely on legitimate interest, you have the right to object. See Your rights below.
Automated screening of messages
Every message written in the app passes through TalkSafe, our automated filter, before it is sent. Depending on what it detects, the sender is shown a suggested rewrite, or the message is refused and not sent.
This is automated processing of the content of your messages. We do not routinely read your messages, and no person reviews a message as a matter of course. If you believe a message was wrongly refused, contact us and we will look at it.
Who else can see your information
The app is a shared tool, so much of what you put in is visible to the people you share it with: the other parent, and any children or other important adults invited into your group. You choose what each person can see, thread by thread and event by event.
A parent can also give a professional, such as a mediator or someone from social services, access to a group. That happens only when a parent chooses it.
We never sell your personal data, and we do not share it with anyone outside your group for their own marketing. If the business is sold, merged or reorganised, personal data may transfer to the buyer as part of that transaction, and we will tell you before it happens.
Who we share it with
We share your information with suppliers who process it on our behalf, under a written contract, on our instructions and for no purpose of their own. They fall into these categories:
- Hosting and infrastructure – provider of cloud-based infrastructure.
- Payment and subscriptions – Apple and Google, who are the sellers of that purchase.
- Analytics and product measurement – understanding how the service and this website are used. On the website this is Google Analytics, and only if you accept statistics cookies.
- Communications – sending email, text messages and push notifications.
- Safety and security – including the automated screening of messages, and preventing fraud and unauthorised access.
- Customer support – the tools we use to answer you.
The suppliers named above are the main one in each category; most categories also include smaller suppliers doing narrower jobs. Which supplier sits where changes from time to time as the service develops, and we may add a category if we add something the service does not do today. We keep the list to the minimum we need and hold every supplier to the same standard, wherever they sit in it. If you want to know exactly who they are at any moment, email hello@co-parenting.app and we will tell you.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
Where your data is stored
Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services. Where a supplier processes data outside the EU or EEA, we rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or another lawful transfer mechanism.
How long we keep it
Because the app is shared, most of what you create belongs to more than one person. We keep a group's information for as long as at least one member of that group has an active account, and for six months after that. It is then deleted.
This means that if you delete your account, shared items — messages, schedule history, agreed changes, shared expenses — remain available to the people in your group who still rely on them.
Logs and technical data are kept for up to 36 months. Aggregated data that cannot identify anyone may be kept indefinitely.
Children
Children can have their own accounts in the app. A child's account is created and managed by a parent, who decides what the child can see and is responsible for their use of the service.
We treat children's data with the same care as everyone else's, and we do not use it for marketing.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your personal data, correct it if it is wrong, delete it, restrict how we use it, or send it to another provider. You can object to processing we base on legitimate interest, and withdraw any consent you have given.
You can delete your account yourself under Settings in the app. Some information cannot be deleted on request: what we must keep by law, and shared items that are also another person's record, as described above.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@co-parenting.app.
If you are unhappy
Please tell us first and we will try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority. Ours is the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, IMY), Box 8114, 104 20 Stockholm, imy.se. You may also complain to the authority in the country where you live.
How we keep it safe
Everything sent to and from us is encrypted in transit, access to production systems is restricted and logged, and we follow established security practices in how the service is built and run.
No service can promise perfect security, but we take this seriously and we will tell you without undue delay if a breach is likely to put your rights at risk.
Cookies
This website uses cookies. Which ones, what each is for and how to change your choice are set out in our cookie policy.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when the service or the law changes. If a change matters to you, we will tell you rather than quietly amend the page.
