Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions parents ask us most, from what the app costs to what your co-parent can see.
Price and subscription
What does the app cost?
One subscription covers your whole family: USD 8.99, GBP 6.99, EUR 8.49, CAD 9.99 or SEK 89 per month.
You pay through the App Store or Google Play, and the exact amount in your own currency is shown before you confirm. There is no higher tier to buy – every feature is included.
Do both parents have to pay?
No. One subscription covers both parents, the children and every other important adult around them. Only one person pays, and it can be either of you.
If you would rather share the cost, you can split it between you in the Finance Assistant.
Do children, grandparents and other important adults need their own subscription?
No. Everyone gets their own free account under the one subscription – your co-parent, the children, bonus family, grandparents, aunts and uncles, close family friends.
There is no limit on how many adults you invite and no extra charge for any of them. You decide what each person can see.
Is there a free trial, and what happens when it ends?
You get one week free with every feature unlocked. We do not hold anything back during the trial, because the app is only worth judging when you can see all of it.
We remind you before the week is up. If you do nothing it becomes a paid monthly subscription; if you would rather not continue, cancel before then.
Can I cancel whenever I want?
Yes. There is no binding period.
Billing runs through the App Store and Google Play, so you cancel there rather than inside the app. Open your subscriptions in your Apple or Google account and cancel Co-parenting from there. You keep full access until the date the next payment would have been taken.
I am the one paying – does that make me the account administrator?
No. There is no administrator role.
Both parents have exactly the same rights in the app; one of you simply happens to hold the subscription. Paying gives you no extra control over the schedule, the chat or what anyone else can see.
What happens if the parent who pays stops paying?
The app stays open only while there is an active subscription behind it. If the paying parent cancels, everyone in the group sees a paywall the next time they open the app – both parents, the children and the other important adults.
Any adult in the group can start the subscription from there, not only the parent who was paying before. Whoever starts it covers everyone else, and your information is exactly where you left it.
How do I get a refund?
Payments are handled by Apple and Google, so refunds are requested from them rather than from us.
On iPhone, use Apple's Report a Problem page; on Android, use Google Play's refund request form.
Why pay for this when we could just use a shared calendar and a messaging app?
A shared calendar has no schedule templates, no way to propose a change the other parent has to accept, and nothing stopping either of you editing an active schedule on your own. It will not fill in your national holidays or your children's school holidays either.
And an ordinary messaging app has no filter on it. In Co-parenting every message passes through TalkSafe before it is sent, so the wording that starts an argument gets caught while it is still being typed – in either direction.
Getting started
How do I sign up?
If you are the first one in: download Co-parenting from the App Store or Google Play, create your account, and then invite your co-parent.
If you have been invited: you will have a code in the email or text message you received. Start creating your account as normal and you will be asked for that code just before you enter your name. That is what links the two of you into the same group.
Either way your first week is free, and one subscription covers everyone you invite.
Does it work on iPhone and Android, and can I use it on a computer?
Yes to all three. The app is on both the App Store and Google Play, and it makes no difference if one of you is on iPhone and the other on Android.
There is also a web version at https://co-parenting.app/login if you would rather work on a computer.
My co-parent refuses to use the app – is there any point in me signing up?
Yes. Set it up and learn your way around it so it is ready when they change their mind, and send a fresh invitation when the moment is better.
In the meantime, invite another important adult – a grandparent, a sibling, a close friend – and start using it with them. It is common for a hesitant co-parent to join once they see that other adults are already there.
It is also worth telling them it costs them nothing. One subscription covers you both, so joining does not put them out of pocket.
Can I use it on my own, or as a single parent?
Yes. Everything works with one parent: the schedule, the calendar, the packing lists, the to-dos, the photos and the Finance Assistant.
While you are on your own, every change you make is approved automatically – there is nobody waiting to accept it. The approval step only appears once your co-parent joins.
We both created accounts separately and we are not connected. How do we fix it?
Two separate groups cannot be merged, so one of you has to start again from the other's invitation.
Decide which account has the least in it. Delete that one under Settings, then create a new account from the other parent's invitation and enter the code when you are asked for it. The two of you will then be in the same group.
Whatever was in the deleted account goes with it, so save anything you need first. If that account is the one holding the subscription, cancel it in the App Store or Google Play as well, so you are not paying for a group you have left.
If you are not sure which account to keep, email hello@co-parenting.app before you delete anything.
What do I need before I start, and how long does it take?
Nothing in advance, and about twenty minutes.
You create your account, add the children, set up a schedule and send the invitation. You can let the AI read in your children's times and activities instead of typing them all, and the school and public holidays are filled in for you.
Schedules and the calendar
What schedule templates are there, and can we try one before we commit?
All the common arrangements are there as templates – alternating weeks, 2-2-3, 2-2-5-5, every other weekend and the rest – and you can build a custom one if your arrangement does not look like any of them.
A schedule is only a proposal until the other parent accepts it, so you can put one together, see how it falls across the year, and change it before either of you has agreed to anything.
Can my co-parent change our schedule without me agreeing?
No. Neither of you can change an active schedule on your own.
Every change is a request that the other parent has to accept before anything moves. What you see in the app is always what you both agreed to.
How do we make a change once the schedule is running?
Make a change request from the icon in the top left corner of the calendar and send it to your co-parent for approval.
Once they accept, the schedule updates for both of you and everyone else in the group sees it straight away.
Are school holidays and public holidays added automatically?
Yes. National public holidays are added for you based on where you live.
Your children's actual school holidays can be imported too, for almost every school across North America, the EU and Australia – the dates your school has published, not a generic guess at term times.
Does it sync with my phone calendar?
Yes, and in whichever direction suits you.
You can bring your phone's calendar into the app so you see everything in one place, and you can push the app's calendar out to your phone so the children's times sit alongside the rest of your life. Plenty of people run both at once.
I have children with more than one co-parent – does that work?
Yes. Set up a separate group for each co-parent and switch between them with a single tap, or open the merged view to see every child's schedule together.
Each group keeps its own schedule, chat and finances.
Messages, privacy and safety
What can my co-parent see, and what stays private?
You choose, item by item. Every chat thread and every event you create has its own setting for who can see it, so you can share a football match with the grandparents and keep something else between the two of you.
The Finance Assistant and the change requests are the exception: those are visible to the parents only, never to the children or the other adults you have invited.
My co-parent sends me abusive messages – what protects me?
Every message goes through TalkSafe, our AI filter, before it is sent – including the ones written to you. Depending on how bad the wording is, the sender is shown a suggested rewrite, or the message is blocked outright and never reaches you.
In Settings you can turn on a stricter filter. That applies to everything sent both to and from you.
You can also invite a third person you both trust into a chat thread. Abuse tends to stop when someone else is in the room.
If you or your child are threatened or harmed, contact the police.
Does TalkSafe block messages, or only warn?
Both, depending on how toxic the wording is.
Milder cases are flagged to the sender with a suggested rewrite, which they can take or ignore. Anything worse is blocked outright and never sends.
Do messages have a read receipt?
Yes. Chat messages, events, to-dos and entries in the Finance Assistant all show when the other person has seen them, so “I never got that” stops being an argument.
It is also a closed system. Messages go straight between you – nothing bounces back and nothing disappears into a spam folder.
Can a message be edited or deleted after it is sent?
No. Chat threads can be archived, but never edited or deleted – what is written stays written, for both of you.
That is what makes the history dependable: either of you can always go back and see exactly what was said.
How is our information handled, and where is it stored?
Your information is stored on Amazon Web Services, with strict security procedures around who can reach it and encryption on everything sent to and from us.
We never sell your data. If the business is sold or merged, your data may transfer to the buyer as part of that, and we will tell you before it happens.
How do I delete my account, and what happens to what we have shared?
Delete your account under Settings in the app.
If you have a paid subscription, cancel it separately in the App Store or Google Play – deleting the account does not stop the billing.
Shared information stays available to the people who still have access to it. It is kept for as long as at least one person in the group has an active account, and for six months after that.
Is the app safe to use if I am leaving an abusive relationship?
We never share your phone number or your email address with the other parent, and the app has no feature that shares your location. You control who can see each thread and each event, and TalkSafe blocks the worst messages before they ever reach you.
We will not tell you it is risk-free. No digital service can promise that nothing about your general whereabouts could ever be inferred from what is shared. If you believe you are in danger, the safest course is not to communicate through any digital channel at all, and to contact the police and the support services near you.
Records, money and getting help
Can we export our chat history and our agreements?
Yes. Chat logs and change requests can both be exported as a verifiable PDF – a file that carries proof it has not been edited afterwards.
It is yours to keep, to archive, or to hand to a lawyer or a mediator.
Would our messages count as evidence in a family court?
You can export your chat logs and change requests as a verifiable PDF – a file that carries proof it has not been edited afterwards. Exports have been used successfully in court proceedings.
Can we make voice or video calls?
Yes. Calls made in the app are recorded, stored and logged alongside the rest of your history, so there is a record of what was said.
How do we split the children's costs?
The Finance Assistant keeps the children's costs in one place. Log a purchase, split it the way the two of you have agreed, and see who owes what without either of you keeping a private tally.
When it is time to settle up it connects to the services you already use – Swish, Venmo, Cash App and others – so the payment happens where your money already is.
How do I get help?
Chat with our support team free inside the app, or email hello@co-parenting.app.
